Enemy prototypes & skeletal animation

Annual mini-update:

Geists are naturally occurring ectoplasm anomalies. Although their looks and behaviour implies some degree of sentience, it is believed they’re not true souls and instead are a pretty complicated nanoplasmic processes. They will be the core and most common enemies of EctoGlyph.

Here are some prototypes:

  • Orbool - the Mettaur/Mettenna of the game. The first enemy to encounter. Will probably attack by rolling in mid-air towards the player.
  • Sulfury - this ever angry Geist’s smell and attitude are pretty bad.
  • P.S. - its sole reason of existence is to chase and attack mail carriers.
  • Grinbun - what looks like a creepy flying smile is in fact a bunny in a bowl.

This is also a small test for the skeletal animation system. The bones are assembled into a skeleton hierarchy. They can be translated and rotated. Their sprites can be animated (like P.S.’s head or Sulfury’s eyes). Next steps would be to add scaling and general transformation that would allow for skewing. The animations also allow only for linear and step transitions, so adding non-linear ones like ease-in/out/etc. would be nice.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Keep up the spirit~
